He circles the frozen lake, einmal, zweimal, dreimal… the local townsfolk looking on. He’s only half there, on the ice, one foot breezing the other, his mind having drifted to where he was mere hours before…

Using Dörte Clara Wolff’s Eislaufkunst painting as a prompt, this flash won first place in the January 2024 Flash Fiction Festival contest, and will be published in the next Festival anthology, Volume 7.
